Total War Arena doesn’t last a year. Thanks, Warfailing! (aka Wargaming)

Well folks, you can’t make this shit up. Wargaming is pulling the plug on Total War Arena after only 9 months in action. Yep, 9 months. That’s it.

Now, I’m sure all the Warfailing apologist will come out of the wood work saying such stupid shit as “they make enough money they don’t need it” or “it was Creative Assembly’s fault” or some other ridiculous shit.

So let’s take a look around at what the majority of internet folks are saying, shall we?

First off, there’s this:

According to Google, the game was pretty well liked. Over on Steam, it seemed pretty well liked as well. So what was the problem?

Well, when you trust Wargaming to promote something, you’ve really screwed yourself right in the ass. Right about the time Creative Assembly was making the deal with Warfailing to promote this game, Wargaming was busy shutting down every office it could and handing over 500 people their pink slips.

So that left a situation sort of like this:

Check out those news feeds, folks!

  • November 3rd, 2017 there’s news.
  • November 24th, 2017 there’s news.
  • February 22nd, 2018, the game goes live and there’s news.

After that there isn’t shit. Why? Because about the exact same time Wargaming was trying to launch this game, they were in the middle of shutting down everything else and laying off everybody. That of course left pretty much nobody left to promote and keep up with the game.

I mean, we all remember it was February right before launch that they sent that fat ass Dance210 over to run the Total War Arena forum, right? And she did exactly fuck-all…except change her forum avatar and that was about it.

Three weeks later, she was shit canned.

Let’s take a look at the face of the Total War Arena forum, shall we?

That’s interesting, isn’t it? Not really much to it. Still though, lots of members, a good deal of posting going on, but look at all the last posts dates. They’re all on the same day the game launched, which is about the same exact time the Emeryville office was shut down.

And here, folks, is the last post made by the only faceless admin there:

So they fucking killed the forum the day the game actually went live.

Fucking epic, isn’t it?

You know what that means, don’t you? They had Creative Assembly’s money to promote the game already, and since they have been flat out hemorrhaging money for the last 3 years, they figured “fuck it”. We’ll shut down everything, fire everybody, and keep the money.

And that’s exactly what they fucking did. They intentionally killed Total War Arena to save money. That’s all there is to it.

So what is Creative Assembly saying? Well, they kept it short and sweet with Joshua Williams saying only this:

“We have learned so much during the development of Arena and we have grown incredibly close with the community and involved you deeply into our development process. It has been an absolute privilege to work with you all on this project, but unfortunately the results of Arena Open Beta Test did not meet all our expectations.”

That’s pretty harsh considering it was only given 9 months to live. Shit must have been pretty fucking bad. In fact, here’s what I’m willing to bet Joshua ACTUALLY wanted to say:

“We thought we had hired a powerhouse promoter in Wargaming and were sold a bill of goods that with their promotion and expertise in the free-to-play model that we’d have a very successful product. Sadly, what we found out is that they’re a bunch of incompetent assholes that can no longer build a good case of hemorrhoids anymore, let alone a brand. So rather than continue to throw good money after bad, especially knowing that all they’re going to do with it is make payments on their multi-million dollar houses rather than actually promote the game, we are pulling the plug.”

Yeah. I’m thinking that’s really a shit load closer to what really went down.

Don’t think so? Well, you’re fucking wrong.

To date, every Total War game made since 2006 is still going. In fact, I still play Medieval Total War and Shogun II Total War from time to time. No problem.

The ONLY Total War to EVER fail, let alone fail completely in 9 months: Promoted by Wargaming.

Add Wargaming = instant failure. That’s all there is to it. It’s fucking pathetic.

How it’s not actually criminal is anybody’s guess.

“The ONLY Total War to EVER fail…”
    That statement speaks volumes.

    Yes it does, doesn’t it?

I still play Shogun II Total War as well, but not online. I like playing it and relaxing. It’s a cool game to do that with.

I’ve always loved the Total War series. The only reason I didn’t even think about trying Total War Arena is because Wargaming was involved in it. I knew they would ruin it, so I never even tried a demo of it. And that’s saying something coming from a guy that has played the Total War series since the original Shogun Total War back in 2000.

I tell you, I didn’t realize they (Wargaming) completely shut down all effort the instant the game was launched. That is simply staggering.

Good thing I never tried it or put any money into it. I know there’s probably thousands that wish they hadn’t either.

That doesn’t suprise me one bit. Give it time and im sure wot will be headed in the same direction. I see they pulled there $999 “mega bundle” again this year to milk out as more as they can.

  4. Thing 1

If you think that’s something, you should see all the bullshit they did on World of Warships. They fucked everybody over by once again intentionally miswording the sales to make people think one thing and then wait until people bought them and started bitching to explain the whole thing.

Fucking crooked, piece of shit assholes are so desperate for cash it’s laughable.

To be honest, as a person who is dealing with different aspects of the Entertainment business, this is Brutal especially if it was a good game, but not to be out of the ordinary, depending on what part of the world you are dealing. In many parts of the world there is some very unstable business practices, which is why if you are from the western world you are taking a risk in doing business in others parts of the world.

In my own case I have had setbacks that normally would not happen if the transactions of services were done here in the US/Canada. But you take chances on not getting overly screwed for the greater reward. and mostly I don’t. But it does happen to the best of us.

Good games are getting harder to find these days. Just sorry to see a potential of a good game going away due to what I believe are bad business practices.

They pulled the 999 $ Sucker play again? O_O Their desperate money grabs have no ends!

One day down the pike, the NA Server will be next.

made some edits to world of warships wikipedia page hopefully edits stick World of Warships has had questionable sales practices with selling virtual ships in game and selling Black versions of those same ships.[26][27] In addition, to this World of Warships has had a business practice of selling lootboxes dubbed containers which anyone can purchase and special containers have been released in tradition with Black Friday.[28] Overall World of Warships has a mixed reception with critics giving it praise while players are not giving it the same acclaim.

  8. Thing 1

Dude, seriously. You really need to work on your posting. We have no idea where the fuck that is, which page of the wiki it’s on, nothing.

  9. landedkiller

It was on the World of Warships Wikipedia page.
They removed the post and I am not surprised. I will work on producing content in the future that is more grammatically correct.

  10. Gomez_Adams

I think you’re missing his point. It has nothing to do with grammar. It has to do with a simple link or screenshot.

It appears as though you simply copy and pasted text from a page, so we have no idea what page that is. We also have no hope of finding ot because you posted no link to it.

You also can’t prove any of it ever existed because there is no screen shot of it.

I feel very confident that is what T1 is referring to.

  11. Thing 1

That’s EXACTLY the fucking point. His post about the reddit was the exact same way. It was a huge copy and paste that showed nothing, proved nothing, that I had to spend 2 fucking hours searching through on the reddit site to correct it all and find the context.

I mean, god fucking damnit. At least post a fucking link so I know where to even start looking. Jesus fucking Christ…it’s not fucking rocket science. A fucking 12 year old can figure it out.
